Special Characteristics: 
Survive on very poor pasture and scarce water, trekking long distances; produce the staple milk and blood to their owners (the Turkana tribe); during the peak dry season, the animals dig down the shores of Lake Turkana in search of water.
Main Location: 
Maintained by the Turkana tribe west of Lake Turkana in north-western Kenya.
Origin: 
Descended from the first introduction of zebu into Africa from west Asia. The Turkana tribe and their animals are believed to have originated from the Karamajong in north-eastern Uganda; presently the cattle are morphologically more similar with the Toposa than with the Karamajong.
